Carrefour doubles its Kenyan sales

Majid Al Futtaim, French retailer Carrefour’s exclusive franchisee in Kenya, recorded a 143% increase in its turnover in the Kenyan market during the first six months of 2018.

“In 2018, we doubled our footprint in Kenya with two of the new stores opened in the first half of the year and the third opened in July. It is this, coupled with the stability of our other stores, that has contributed to the growth in revenues,” commented Franck Moreau, Majid Al Futtaim’s country manager for Kenya. The retailer is due to open a sixth outlet in Kenya before the end of the year.
The company did not disclose absolute sales figures for Kenya. Last year, its Kenyan operations recorded a turnover of KES 8.2 billion (USD82 million). Based on its first-half performance, this figure is likely to exceed KES20 billion for 2018 as a whole.
