Website Africa Intelligence reports that CFAO is planning to open five new Carrefour outlets in Côte d’Ivoire. Four of these are to be located in Yopougon, the most populous of Abidjan’s ten communes, where CFAO opened a Carrefour Market within the Cosmos Yopougon mall late last year.
It is likely that the new Yopougon stores will operate under Carrefour’s hard discount Supeco banner. This follows the opening of the first African Supeco outlet in Senegal earlier this year.
The other new store is set to be located in a new PlaYce mall in Grand-Bassam, a coastal resort located 30km east of Abidjan. This would be Carrefour’s first Ivorian store located outside of Abidjan.
Carrefour entered the Ivorian market in 2015 and currently operates two hypermarkets there, in addition to the aforementioned supermarket. CFAO franchises the Carrefour banner in West Africa and currently has stores in Cameroon and Senegal, as well as Côte d’Ivoire.
