Rwandan café chain Brioche opens “on-the-go” outlets in service stations

Rwandan café chain Brioche has partnered with Société Pétrolière Ltd (SP) to create a coffee shop concept for the latter’s chain of service stations. Brioche currently operates four outlets in the capital Kigali, as well as two in Nairobi. The first two of these franchised outlets have opened at SP’s Nyarugenge and Gikondo outlets.
According to a press release, the “Brioche On-The-Go!” concept “provides a new menu of drinks, food and convenience retailing products.”  “The opportunity to expand Brioche coffee shops via a strong fuel retail platform like SP is exciting time … The brand is proven and well known,” said Jean-Philippe Kayobotsi, co-founder of Brioche.
In 2014, Kayobotsi told website How We Made it in Africa: “Brioche is more than a coffee shop. It started out as a bakery/pastry/coffee shop, but our offering has broadened to include meals, such as hamburgers and pasta.” “We believe that the growth of Brioche is an indicator of what Rwandans like and aspire to. When we opened our first boutique, many people thanked us for it. It seemed a bit weird to us until we realised that people felt something like ‘We in Rwanda also deserve something like this.’ The middle class is of course starting to grow, even though there is still much to be done,” he added.
